Community Complex

Art Direction - Creative Execution - Illustration - Mural

The Execution

“Community Complex” mural is a celebration of frontline workers. During difficult and regular times frontline workers have supported communities and encouraged unity. This design emphasizes a few frontline workers, out of many, immersed in a landscape of elements suggesting growth and strength all around them. Symbolism such flora highlight the personal growth individuals have accomplished in the midst of hard times, whereas the birds indicate the perseverance of many small local businesses. The centre of the artwork holds a planet which is significant for the growth of the digital age and its power to keep not only individuals connected but keep work running. The usage of various different patterns and designs throughout the work signifies the simultaneous happenings around us and all the activities that were made possible though the people at the frontline. The mural further integrated the community of Pickering and Chestnut Hills Developments Recreation Complex through design choices that individuals had a say in such as colour scheme, the artistic style and the character style. Overall, the work aims to bring a positive and optimistic note to the neighbourhood.
